Dealing With Backseat Dance Instructors

I usually deal with the 1st type of Backseat Dance Instructors in my beginner classes.  This type of BDI is someone who thinks they know what they’re talking about, but they really don’t.

A lesson is similar to live entertainment so I don’t want to kill the general mood by doing a hard shut down on the Backseat Dance Instructor. The BDI is usually someone who honestly doesn’t know that they are making mistakes, so I use positive encouragement instead.

I challenge Backseat Dance Instructors with slight variations to what’s being taught in class. These variations will challenge the BDI’s weaknesses and force them to improve without me having to explicitly point out their mistakes.

Passive aggressive positive dance instructor FTW!
